Lion Brand Flikka yarn in Keepsake – 4 skeins

Hook size L/11 – 8.00 mm

Stitch markers

Gauge:

11 sc and 6 rows = 4” (gauge for rows measured in mixed rows from row 21)

Sc – single crochet

Dc – double crochet

Tc – treble crochet

Sk – skip

St, sts – stitch, stitches

Notes:

  1. Beginning chains don’t count.
  2. You’ll be making four triangles and sewing them together to create this piece.  You start at the straps and work your way down.
  3. The fit is loose but if you want to make it larger, you can add an increase at both ends of the rows rather than just one end as the pattern is written.  Be aware that this will change the shape of your triangles.
  4. Note that in the rows where you do the open-work stitch (the first one being in row 34), you do the increase at the end of the row, not at the beginning of the row like the rest of the pattern.

Instructions:

Make four.

Construction:

Lay 2 triangles out flat side by side with wrong sides up.

Sew from the bottom up approximately 16”.

Repeat with the other 2 triangles until all four are sewn together to create the piece.

With the coverup still inside out, line up the straps, and sew them together about 8” from the top (between rows 20 and 21).  When you turn the coverup right side out, you will bring the strap ends up over the seam and tie them together.  You can skip sewing the straps together if you like and just tie them whenever you wear it, but I think it’s easier in the long run to just sew them.

To add the fringe, you’ll need approximately 105 strands of yarn that are 15 1/2” long.  (The easiest way I’ve found to cut the yarn is to wind it around a book the size I want and then just snip through at one end.) I attached a strand in every other stitch all the way around the bottom.

For the tassel at the v-neck, I used 10 strands held together and just looped them through in the same way you tie the fringe.
