I wanted a vintage look for this table runner so I used Ecru with the pastels to achieve that. You can easily change the colors to match your decor. I also wanted a layered look to the center flower without making it too difficult so I just made three separate flowers and sewed them together! Easy peasy!!

This beautiful and easy table runner and coaster set will absolutely brighten up your table this Spring!

Spring Table Runner Pattern

Notes:

  1. Beginning chains count as stitches.
  2. I like to start with a magic circle so there’s no hole in the middle, but alternatively you can: ch 3, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, *ch 2, 3 dc in same ch*, repeat from * to * two more times, ch 2, join at top of first ch with ss.
  3. The beginning square repeats the same pattern in each round, and each round increases by 4 stitches.  I included the number of stitches for each side in every round so it’s easy to check it as you go.
  4. You have the option of not cutting your yarn between rows that use the same color and just doing a build up chain.  It’s definitely the easier option, but it makes the build-up chain more obvious so the choice is yours.
  5. The sides will look uneven when you start building up the long ends of the runner.  Don’t worry – the ruffle border will cover it.
  6. You will begin doing rows back and forth on Row 18.  Once the length is done, you begin the border.  The center flower is crocheted and attached at the end.
  7. In Row 22 (and all solid rows after open rows), I like to crochet into the ch 1 from the previous row, but you can crochet under the ch 1 if you prefer.
  8. For Row 1 of the border, you single crochet evenly around.  If you do two sc in each ch 2 space and dc along the sides, it’ll come out even, but don’t worry if it’s not exact.

Rows 19 – 20:  Turn, ch 2, dc in next st and each st across row.  67 sts

Row 21:  Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc plus ch 1), sk 1, dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc*, repeat from * to * across row ending with dc.

Repeat Rows 18 – 38 on the other side.

For the Border:

Row 2:  Attach Mint in any stitch along the side.  Ch 3, tc in same st, 2 tc in next st and each st around, doing 3 tc in each corner.

Row 3:  Turn, ch 2, hdc in first st, and each st around, doing 3 hdc in each corner.  Cut yarn and fasten off.

For the Center Flower – Use Pink yarn:

Note:  The center flower is done in three layers and then sewn together.  I’ve written the instructions for “first flower” which is the smallest, “second flower” which is the medium one, and “third flower” which is the largest.  Keep the long tail in the center of each flower to make it easy to sew them together.

First Flower

Make a magic circle and leave a long tail.

Round 1:  *Sc in circle, dc 4 times in circle*, repeat from * to * four times, sc.  Join with ss, tighten ring and fasten off.  5 petals.

Second Flower

Make a magic circle and leave a long tail.

Round 1:  Sc 6 times in circle, join with ss and tighten ring.  6 sts

Round 2:  Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in each remaining st, join with ss. 12 sts

Round 3:  Ch 1, *sc in first st, 2 sc in next st*, repeat from * to * four times, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts, join with ss. 18 sts

Round 4:  *Ch 3, sc in next 3 sts*, repeat from * to * five times, no ss to join in this round.  6 loops.

Round 5:  *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch 3 sp, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st* (Note: you’re putting your sc in the center of the 3 sc group from the previous round.) Repeat from * to * four times, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch 3 sp, sk next st, sc in next st.  Join with ss at base of first dc and fasten off.  6 petals

Third Flower

Make a magic circle and leave a long tail.

Round 1:  Sc 6 times in circle, join with ss and tighten ring.  6 sts

Round 2:  Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in each remaining st, join with ss. 12 sts

Round 3:  Ch 2, 1 dc in first st, 2 dc in each remaining st around, join with ss.  24 sts

Round 4:  Ch 2, 1 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss.  36 sts

Round 5:  Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, ch 1, sk 1, *3 dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1* repeat from * to * around, join with ss. 18 clusters

Round 6:  Ch 1, 5 dc in next st, sc, sk 1, *sc, 5 dc in next st, sc, sk 1*, repeat from * to * around, join with ss, and fasten off.  18 petals

To assemble center flower, pull the center tail from the first flower through the center of the second flower.  Pull both tails from the centers of the first and second flower through the third flower.  Pull tight so flowers are snug against each other.  Tie off underneath the largest flower, but leave the tails so you can thread these through the center of the table runner.

To attach flower to runner, pull the tails through the very center of the runner.  Tie in place and weave in ends.

Ruffled Flower Coaster Pattern

Notes:

  1. Beginning chains count as stitches.
  2. I prefer a magic circle to start so there’s no hole in the middle.  However, if you’d like, you can chain 2 and work 5 sc into the second chain from hook for Round 1.
  3. In Round 3, counting the beginning chain, you will have 25 sts. That is correct – you’re adding an extra stitch in this round.
  4. Do build-up chains loosely to make it easier to get your hook through for the slip stitch at the end of each round.
  5. I  recommend putting a stitch marker in the top of your build-up chain, it makes it much easier to find where to place your slip stitches.

Instructions:

Make a magic circle. (Or use optional instructions in Notes.)

Round 1:  Sc six times into the magic circle.  Join with a ss. (6 sts)

Round 2:  Ch 1, 1 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st and in each st around.  Join with ss. (12 sts)

Round 3:  Ch 2, 2 dc in first st and in each stitch around.  Join at the top of the first dc with ss. (25 sts)

Round 4:  Ch 2, 2 dc in next stitch, ch 1, sk 1, *3 dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1*.  Repeat from * to * ten times.  Join at top of first dc with ss. (12 clusters)

Round 5:  Ch 1, 5 dc in next stitch, sc, sk 1, *sc, 5 dc in next stitch, sc, sk 1*.  Repeat from * to * ten times.  Slip stitch into first chain and bind off. (12 petals).
