Pastel Summer Poncho

This is such a quick and easy project.  It’s perfect as a cool and airy cover-up for warmer weather.  If you’re like me, there are times you need a little extra coverage, but not necessarily the warmth that goes with it.  Enter this poncho.  I wore it on a very warm day and was still very comfortable.  I designed it with lots of holes for that very purpose! 🙂  I used leftover cotton yarn that I had on hand and was really pleased at how it turned out.  But feel free to use any colors you want.  I think this would look lovely in a solid color, too.  If you’d like it a little longer, just make a longer beginning chain, but be sure to make it an even number.

Materials:

Crochet hook size J

Peaches and Creme yarn in these colors (you will use very little of the Ecru and Sunshine) – 

Pastel Pink – 3 skeins

Aquamarine – 2 skeins

Blueberry – 1 skein

Ecru – 1 skein

Sunshine – 1 skein

Abbreviations:

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

tc – triple crochet

sk – skip

ss – slip stitch

st(s) – stitch, stitches

sp – space

Notes:  

1.  Beginning chains do not count as stitches.

2.  To change colors – at the end of the row, before pulling through the very last loops on your hook, drop the yarn and cut it leaving a tail long enough to weave in, then pull the new color through.

Here is the color pattern:

Instructions:  You will make two.  

With Blueberry, chain 120 plus 2.

Row 1:  sc in 2nd ch and each st across for 121 sts.

Row 2:  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st and each st across. 

Row 3:  Aquamarine.  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st and each st across.

Row 4:  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 5:  Turn, ch 3, tc in first st, *tc in next sp, tc in next st *, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 6:  Sunshine. Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.

Row 7:  Aquamarine. Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 8:  Turn, ch 3, tc in first st, *tc in next sp, tc in next st *, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 9:  Ecru.  Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.

Row 10:  Pastel Pink.  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 11:  Turn, ch 3, tc in first st, *tc in next sp, tc in next st *, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 12:  Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.

Row 13:  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 14:  Turn, ch 3, tc in first st, *tc in next sp, tc in next st *, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 15:  Aquamarine.  Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.

Row 16:  Pastel Pink.  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

Row 17:  Turn, ch 2, dc in first st, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * across row.

 

Construction:

Lay the two panels out evenly with the pink sides lining up.   

Using pink yarn, sew from the ends towards the center as far up as you wish.

Be careful to line up the squares/holes as you sew.

I sewed the front of mine about 7 1/2 inches… 

…and the back about 12 inches.

If you’d like to add fringe, you’ll need to cut about 160 pieces of pink yarn and make them about 10” long.  Fold a strand in half…

…weave the folded end through a space, then pull the two loose ends through. 

Pull tight.
