The Love You Forever Baby Blanket is named after a book I used to read to my son when he was small. It was our favorite, and it always made me cry! If you know the book, you’ll know what I mean. It’s an easy ripple pattern, but being single crochet, it does take a little longer. I held two strands together and used a small hook because I wanted this blanket to be a little heavier and denser (and therefore warmer) than my Pretty Pastels Baby Blanket which is very lightweight. The Lion Brand Baby Soft Yarn creates a gorgeous blend of colors – perfect for a little princess!

Materials:
Lion Brand Baby Soft in Petal – 4 skeins
Lion Brand Baby Soft in Mint – 2 skeins
Lion Brand Baby Soft in Pansy – 1 skein
Lion Brand Baby Soft in Pastel Yellow – 1 skein
Hook size H/8 – 5.00mm
Stitch markers
Gauge:
15 sc stitches = 4”
13 rows = 4”
Dimensions:
34” wide x 36” long
Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
St, sts – stitch, stitches
Sp – space
sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (creates 1 decrease)
Special Stitches:
To do the sc2tog stitch, insert hook in st, draw up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook in next st, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over, draw yarn through all three loops to create one decrease.
Notes:
- Beginning chain doesn’t count as a stitch.
- I highly recommend using stitch markers. Place one in the first stitch in each row and you’ll know exactly where to stop when you get back to that end.
- You will be holding two strands together to create this blanket. Just pull one strand from each skein of the colors indicated, and hold the two together as one. Crochet normally. I used a smaller hook because I wanted a denser fabric. Feel free to use a larger hook if you’d like a looser stitch.
- The ripple effect is created by doing decreases and increases. The sc2tog stitch will create your decreases, and doing 2 sc in each stitch will create your increases. The effect becomes more obvious a few rows in.
Instructions:
Holding Pansy and Pastel Yellow together, chain 141.
Row 1: 2 sc in second ch from hook. One sc in each of next 2 chains, (sc2tog) twice, one sc in each of next 2 chains, *2 sc in each of next 2 chains, one sc in each of next 2 chains, (sc2tog) twice, one sc in each of next 2 chains.* Repeat from * to * across row. 2 sc in last chain.
Row 2: Turn, ch 1. 2 sc in first st. One sc in each of next 2 sts, (sc2tog) twice, one sc in each of next 2 sts, *2 sc in each of next 2 sts, one sc in each of next 2 sts, (sc2tog) twice, one sc in each of next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * across row. 2 sc in last st.
Rows 3 – 5: Repeat pattern in row 2 for the rest of the blanket following color changes as indicated.
Rows 6 – 15: Mint – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 16 – 19: Petal – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 20 – 21: Pansy and Pastel Yellow held together.
Rows 22 – 24: Petal – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 25 – 26: Mint – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 27 – 80: Petal – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 81 – 82: Mint – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 83 – 85: Petal – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 86 – 87: Pansy and Pastel Yellow held together.
Rows 88 – 91: Petal – hold 2 strands together.
Rows 92 – 101: Mint – hold 2 strands together.
